Safe boating in France

To enter French inland waterways there’s a number of administrative, navigation and other rules boaters and skippers should take into account.

Voies Navigables de France (VNF) is France’s public inland waterways authority. VNF manages, maintains and develops around 6,700 km of the 8,500 km of canals and rivers in France.

Use VNF’s waterway route calculation. Find here information about navigation fees and offices. Prepare and optimise your boat for a trip in France and southern Belgium.

PoGo App ‘Petites Ondes Grandes Ondes’ provides actual information nearby your geographic position, such as locks, services, favourite attractions, events, navigation, equipment, etc. (French). Pleasure Boaters on French Waterways provides actual information, the regulations and more about boating in France.
