A visit to review CRT’s volunteering system took place in Gloucester and Birmingham on 21 – 22 May 2015. The meeting was organized during the Gloucester tall ship event, with many volunteers active.
Canal River Trust presented their volunteering system to Waterrecreatie Nederland. CRT follows a clear process of:
- planning: preparation for working with volunteers
- recruiting: process, induction, training
- managing: supporting a volunteer in an informal way
- growing: developing the volunteers cohort and retaining volunteers.
Volunteers do maintenance, operate locks and bridges, give tours and presentations, go boating with visitors, etc.
CRT’s positive and experienced way of working with volunteers is a best practice for Waterrecreatie Nederland to further develop their volunteers’ program.
